In any case, here's hoping your first week back is engaging and exciting enough to counteract the Sunday Night Anxiety Ride.
Have a great week...and a great start to the school year!

Whether you started back last week, this week, or even if you start back after Labor Day (lucky you!), you can certainly relate to the image above. I dread what I've named the "Sunday Night Anxiety Ride," and it's probably why I often went see a movie on Sunday nights this past summer. It made me feel like I was cheating the weekend--and thumbing my nose at the school-year Sunday nights.

How did summer go soooooo fast? I still remember what this felt like in the early days of June! Happy Monday, and enjoy your last remaining days of glorious, glorious summer. image via Mark Parisi Can I get an amen? Wow...my first two weeks of summer were purely recuperative. How about yours? I finally feel like I've got my energy and stamina back...just in time to start planning for next year! image via someecards That snarky, smug teacher used to be me. Until this past Saturday, that is. I had the pleasure to attend EdCampCLE 2014, and I had my world ROCKED! If you're unfamiliar with the concept of an EdCamp, it's professional development flipped. The content is teacher-driven, the ideas are innovative, the energy is authentic, and the desire to transform education is primary. It's a Monday near the end of the school year, and yet I am inspired, overwhelmed, energized, and eager, especially by the shout-out below. This was my first EdCamp, and I can assure you it won't be my last. Take a look yourself at #edcampCLE2014 or follow my Twitter feed. I've also posted some new resources from EdCampCLE to my LINKS page, most notably "Genius Hour," "Backchanneling," and "Formative Assessment." Feel free to grab and share, because if I learned anything this past Saturday, it's that good teaching begins with opening up and sharing everything we've got. Even though it's Monday, I feel good. Hope you have a great week, too! Image via Someecards I showed this comic to my own children to explain how we did things "back in the day." Which led to a lengthy Q & A session from the boys as to how I managed to keep in touch with my friends and "followers" without technology. It was quite the horror story, in their opinion. Have a great week! Image via John Atkinson and Wrong Hands Well, I'm back at school after a VERY restful spring break. While I certainly enjoyed a little "me" time, I also had the opportunity to engage in one of my favorite pastimes--Pinterest! I've already accumulated a whole bunch of lesson ideas for the next school year organized on my new favorite site--EdShelf. I really SHOULD get some kind of credit for being so industrious, right? Have a great week! Image via someecards I'm on Spring Break this week--woo-hoo! Don't get me wrong, I still have tons to do school-wise, but I'm planning to enjoy my staycation doing things I don't normally get to do during the school year, like nap and read. Break will end soon enough, however, and then...well, it will be back to reality. If you're on break, enjoy a restful week. If you're not on break, you have my empathy. :-) I'm still knee-deep in my research unit for grades 4-8, and we just finished up a week of learning how to effectively and properly use the Internet to conduct research. Imagine the condescending looks I received when I mentioned to my 7th graders that they might want to consider using their social studies textbooks as a resource in addition to using the Internet. Sometimes it makes me miss the good old days. Does your school library still have a card catalog? Does anyone use it? Have a great week! Image via Flickr Maybe this post should be titled "Monday Moaning" instead. I had a weird week filled with more than one parent excusing or rationalizing missing assignments or assignments submitted after the deadline. So this poster now hangs on my classroom door. :-) Have a great week! Image by YouthChange The final quarter begins today, and for the next nine weeks I'll be teaching Internet research skills to my students in grades 4-8. So I almost snorted out my morning smoothie when I saw Dan Piraro's Bizzaro comic in this morning's paper. How many of us use books anymore to conduct research? (For that matter, how many of us still read paper versions of newspapers?) Have a great week! Image by Dan Piraro via Arcamax |
